For about three months I have been doing false returns at my place of employment and putting the cash back onto my store credit card. When I looked at my card the amount of returns equaled about 3500$. I'm really frightened and don't know what to do. I have been buying back most of the stuff I've returned falsely, but I know I will not be able to buy it all back.This technically my second offense involving theft, my first being when I was 15 years old and it was sealed (I'm currently 21). Will my previous offense hurt me if I am convicted of embezzlement? If I come forward now will they be more likely to go easy on me because I confessed myself or should I wait and see if it's actually discovered. Any advice would help greatly.

Will all white collar jobs be off limits or could I still find a decent paying job?

Nothing that involves finance, investments or money... to start with. Or anything that has a security clearance or bonding.

Im 21 years old and currently in college for public relations. What degree would be better for job prospects. I was thinking about communications, is that off limits too?

As long as you wouldn't be needing a security clearnance for the specific employer.

I can't think of why that would be off limits... of course as long as the employer wasn't in banking, FInance... etc.. But that does leave basically everything else.

If you are arrested and convicted I believe finding a job will be very difficult - this is the second time you've embezzled (and under certain circumstances that first arrest can be opened). Theft from an employer is a very serious offense.

I would not spend money on a college degree if the career requires licensing which you cannot get.

My first offense was actually petty theft not embezzlement and it was automatically sealed. Is there any job field I should look into that would increase my chances for a job. I would also like to point out that my embezzelment hasn't been found out yet. Should I confess and try to make a plea deal or wait and see what happens?

Depending on the job.. and who does the investigating... that sealed record won't be all that sealed..

Just from the way you write, it's clear that you have a problem that isn't going to 'cure' itself, and I mean mentally, not legally. You have no ethics, just a wish to save your skin.
So you are going to do this again if you don't get therapy. Unless jail jolts some conscience into you.

Your teenage record is probably hidden from your employer. As stated, however, no record is truly sealed, not from courts and the police. What can be brought up in court depends on the judge and state law.

Yes, you should tell them now. They are going to find out. How does someone say they have been buying 'most' of it back and yet somehow can't pay all of it? How much have you bought back? Sit down, add it all up, and answer back.

Deal with THIS job before jumping around asking about future jobs. Another sign that you just don't get it - you think in terms of what's most convenient and what's the easiest way to get out of trouble. You are an adult now.
