    What rights do I have in Texas if my husband filed for a divorce?
    I’m a house wife with no income. I was pressured to marry a social path. I recently received a letter saying that he was divorcing me and that my religious beliefs and counseling is the reason for it. He has no human traits other than his flesh and it scares me. I have nowhere to go. We have a house together.

    The last time I left I became homeless and very depressed due to the loss of 13 people that was dear to me back to back along with my health issues and battling with PTSD. He abuses me mentally every chance he gets, even while I’m sleep. I want out but I don't want to be homeless again. He took 3 years of my life and it was based on all lies. He throws his weight around because he's a public figure along with his family. I’m afraid. The last time I told them I was afraid, the police that is, he went up there and threatened the cops and the judge. He says that he don't answer to God and he's not goanna answer to anyone. I was a singer and he took away my ability to by cracking my face 2 years ago.

    I need help because I can’t fight this alone.

    You somehow hire a lawyer who will wait for your settlement to get paid, and you proceed with the divorce. That's all you can do. When he cracked your face you should have called the police. All the rest is neither here nor there except for 2 lawyers arguing in front of a judge. If there is any equity in the house and he can buy out whatever you are awarded, there's your down payment on a place to live.

    There are shelters for abused women I know I've been homeless. I left my husband in 2007 and finally got my own place in 2011. I lived in my car a day then with a friend a couple of weeks until I was approved to live on a secured apartment property for abused women. Call around disappear for good they usually tell you don't contact anyone or let anyone know your location once in shelter. I hope you get away soon!

    You move to a shelter for abused women, get the counseling you need, find a job and start a new life. Even if you "got" the house, you could not pay for it, now.

    Thank God, he is finally divorce you, you should have left and stayed gone long before

    You have the same rights as any spouse in a divorce. What specifically do you want to know?

    The advice to seek help from an abused souse support group is a good one. You should be able to find one in your area. You might start with a local chapter of NOW (Nat'l Org of Women) if you can't find a group on your own.

    {Mod Note: since this is a legal question it was moved from the Divorce forum}
