My carpet fells very very damp. And some stains,what can I do?

First, turn the water off, possibly near the hot water heater or front wall. Apartment, condo, your own house, slab, crawl space, basement?? Where is the leak, along the wall, middle of floor, behind a bathroom?

Shut off main shut off valve and call a plumber.
