I have a whirlpool water heater with a honeywell burner control valve. I hear that there is a reset button on the honewell, which is not labeled, but will get the thing working again (It was turned off for a month, and now will not relight)

I am not sure about that valve, but they are all simple. Try turning it off and back to pilot and pressing the pilot button in until you clear out the air. It should light then.
What exactly is the heater doing? Pilot won't light? If so whirlpool heaters have a reset button on a sensor to the right of the gas valve, the little white button between the two wires needs pushed in then relight according to directions. (You will need to remove the front cover to see the sensor.) Good luck
