    Windows xp won't load/boot
Hi I have a problem with my windows xp boot. When I try to boot windows I get the screen that says: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
I would appreciate all your help. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Do you use System Restore?
Here is a link explaining step by step how to use it:

    http://www.informit.com/articles/art...01189&seqNum=1

If you don't have a restore point already, that you can re-set your computer to, then use your XP install CD/CD's, and use the System Recovery.

    Won't load/boot
Firstly, just a silly thought. If your processor fan has 'died',the overheating may cause the error?

Probably that is'nt the case,so back to sensible answers. The ntoskrnl.exe is the Windows kernal. Can be tricky when it 'corrupts'.

Try this.Insert your XP disc into your drive, and at the command prompt type in:

    Copy d:\1336\Driver.cab c:\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe/v

The 'd' I'm guessing is the letter of your Rom drive. If it's E,F,G,or whatever, just substitute 'd' for the correct one.

Then press enter.Take cd out of drive when verified and reboot your PC.

    Might not work,but it's worth a try.

    All the best,
    Nez.

Try just booting to your XP CD and running the REPAIR option when prompted.

    Howdy:

When you tried to use the XP cd to boot with, did you boot into BIOS first and make sure the first boot device was set to the cd-rom?

Also, how old is the XP cd? You may need to take it back to the store you bought it from and get a replacement as it may have corrupted files..
