Fan in the outside unit shuts off after some time
    Hello,

The fan in the outside unit of my Goodman airconditioner shuts off after about an hour when the thermostat is set to cooling. Here is the sequence:

    1. Switch thermostat from "Off" to "Cool"; Fan is set to "Auto"
    2. Snowflake indication shows upon thermostat, both indoor fan and outdoor unit Fan start running and cooling takes place.
    3. After some time (about an hour or so), the outdoor unit fan stops spinning, indoor unit fan continues to run for hours until switched off.
    4. Switch thermostat from "Cool" to "Off" to switch off indoor fan.

The above cycle repeats if the thermostat is switched back to "Cool" after a few hours.

    Can someone please help.

The problem could be as simple as a capacitor but most likely the condenser fan motor is in need of replacement.

Thank you for your response Grady. The fan came on a couple times after extended periods of gap yesterday but did not work at all today evening. Are there any voltages that I can check? Is the condenser fan motor easy to replace? Can you point me to any DIY instructions?

Does the compressor shut off too or just the fan? It wouldn't take long, probably just a minute or two, for the compressor to shut down after the fan shuts off.

Rather than spending a lot of time trying to catch it in the act, I'd suggest replacing the capacitor. They are inexpensive (normally less than $20) & easy to replace.
