I live in Mid-Michigan and recently purchased my first home and was interested in building a room in my basement (10ft x 13ft). The house is about 4 years old and the basement is dry. I was wondering what would be an estimated price of materials to build a room (no closet, one small window at top of one wall, cheaper materials). I have 5 brothers (Labor) and a friend I could borrow power tools from. I think I will need the following: The wood to build the frame, drywall, drywall tape, nails, primer, paint, electrical wiring, lighting and electrical fixtures, a door, padding and carpet. I am not sure if I left anything out.

This is easy. Do a take off list of materials, organized by trade, then take it down to Big Orange and they will price it out for you. Pretty neat if HD is in your community. Nm

You said you basement is dry but you need to test the concrete for moisture. Tape a plastic bag down to the floor. Make sure the tape is well sealed on all four edges. Let it sit for a day or two and then pull of the tape. If you find droplets on the bag you actually do have a moisture problem. The only other thing that comes to mind is I'd skip the padding. If padding gets wet you can't dry it without it mildewing. If carpet alone gets wet you can dry it with almost no fear of mildew.
