Do I have to file CA state tax and NY IT-201 or IT-203 ?
    Hi All,
I was a grad student in California till June 2006. I got my TA cheques and fellowships during that period. From June 2006 onwards, I am in New York city on a full time job. I reside in the city.

As I am a part year resident in the NY, so I think I should file IT-203 along with IT0360.1. Could anybody please confirm me ?

Also I was on F1 till OCtober 2006 and then afterwards H1. So will be my filing status as below ? Please correct me if any.

    1) 1040NR (Federal )

    2) 6251 (alternative minimum tax individual... am not sure.. do I need to file this too ? )

    3) 8843 (for exempt during student ship... )

    2) 1099 INT ( I got some interest in my savings A/c... am not sure... do I need to file this too ?)

    3) IT 203 ( not sure if I need to file this or IT-201 ?)

    4) IT 360.1. ( is this essential if I do IT-203 ?)

    5) My idea of NY City tax is iemdedded in the state tax. Is that correct ?

    Thanks for all your help.

    Regards,

The Forms cited for the NY taxes are correct.

You need to file a California state tax return for the income earned in California.

Form 6251 is probably NOT needed unless you made in excess of $150K in 2006.

Form 1099-INT income is probably exempt from U.S. taxes due to your non-resident alien status.

NYC taxes ARE embedded in NY state tax return.
