I have been trying to breed my male miniature dachshund with a friends female but his legs are longer, where she is short and stout. So when he does try to mount on he's too high and not aiming where he's supposed to to get them to mate. Does anyone have any suggestions or is this just impossible.

Put her on an elevated platform, perhaps a padded board or a pillow.

Is there a genetic defect? Is that why he's taller than the female? There is a breed standard for all dogs. If he's larger than the breed standard, he's not breeding quality, and shouldn't be allowed to breed at all.

What genetic testing has been done on the male and female?

Is there a reason you're breeding your dogs? I hope you are prepared for the worse when it comes time for puppies to be born.. Emergency C-Section and the supplies to bottle feed should be on hand.

Some females are not breeders.. they simply will not stand for the male.

Males need lots of practice. But in order for them to get this practice, you're putting him at risk to get beat up by the girl.

If you're dead set on breeding your dogs, than you need to be speaking with an actual breeder. They will have tips and suggestions. Looking for answers online is not the way to do it.

Find a breeding mentor. If your dogs are breed quality the breeding mentor will teach you how to up their status, prove that they're the top of their breed, and then how to breed them properly.

The reason legitimate breeders charge so much for their puppies is because of all the work, and resources, involved in breeding properly. Real breeders do it for the love of the breed, and furthering the breed, not for money. In fact, even if they charge $3000 and up, they rarely break even.

I would think that the Vet who examined both dogs before OP started "breeding" them would have all sorts of information about this and other concerns.
