I have water leaking from the ceiling in a storage closet below the 2 story bathroom. It has grown in size and I now have water on the floor and items soaked. How to I proceed with finding out the cause? Tub? Toilet? Or sink?

Turn off the water to the faucet and toilet. That leaves tub. Still leaking? If yes, it is in the tub line. If not, it is in the sink faucet or toilet line and they are usually the same feed. Turn on the toilet line. If it is leaking, you have a leak in that line, if not, it is in the faucet line. Look under the sink, feel under the toilet input fitting. If you see no active water, you have a leak in the supply line to the bath and will need to open the ceiling in the closet. Do you notice it at all times or when draining? Homeowners typically does not respond for a leak. Read your condo papers, it should tell you who is responsible for what. Who pays for the water? If the condo association, call them. If you pay for the water it is possibly your issue and responsibility.

Have we determined whether this is a pressure leak or a drainage leak? To repair a leak you must first determine the source. A good way to tell is that if the leak does not stop when the bathroom is not being used then it's a pressure leak. If the leak when someone flushes or drain is a fixture then you have a drainage leak. In my area it is the owners responsibility to repair problems within the confines of the unit. Anything outside your unit is in the common area and should be paid for by the condo association. Determine the source and get back to us.
