PLEASE help. I put up a new fan last night in home. Old owner took his fan but left down rod in place. I removed old rod, put up new fan. Original fan had white, red, black wires from home connected to same colors in original rod with no green connected, a bare wire was taped off in box. NEW FANhas blue, black, white green. I connected black black, white white, green to bare in ceiling, and blue to red.

Turned on light to fan and good to go.
Turned on fan (rotating knob)and good. Turned off. Turned on again and pop from the wall switch... Fan not working but the is.

What do I do now?

Thought about redoing wires to connect both black and blue to red wire and just use on switch.

Thought about connecting my

The light is working, but not the fan.

Is that a fan speed control switch or a light dimmer switch?

Sounds like a light dimmer, and sounds like you blew it with fan. Remove it and if connected to black, replace it. Connect new dimmer to red and move black to other switch.

I just removed face plate. The silver plate on dimmer is actually a fan speed controller after all, engraved on metal plate. I guess I should just get a new one?

If you still have problems, investigate the bare that is taped off, usually you want this to touch the box(ground), may have been hot with switchleg, and was insulated with tape to keep from blowing a dimmer or circuit?
I have seen some bad things.

Connections at switch should be white to white, black of incoming cable (2-wire) to both switches, black of 3-wire cable to fan switch, red of 3-wire cable to other switch.

If you have other wires describe wiring in switch box.

OK, I Installed the new rotary action fan control on wall. Followed original wiring, 2 blacks to 2 blacks, 1 green to 1 green. Then I went to ceiling fan wiring to match the original wiring which means I capped off the bare wire again and did not connect the green. I turned everything on and its working fine.

So, no green (ground?) connected like it was the first time. Working great but is it safe?

You are not telling us the complete story. The green and bare wires are ground wires. They are a safety thing and are not part of the electrical circuit.

You said you have a red wire in the ceiling. Either you have more wires in the ceiling than you at first described or you have a red wire in the switch box.

Describe all the wires in the ceiling and all the wires in the switch box.
