The toilet flushed and backed up into the tub -- using the plunger, I finally got everything to go down overnight -- flushed it this morning and the toilet filled and the bathtub won't drain. Can I put something like Draino or Liquid plumber in the tub drain? I don't think I'm supposed to put it in the toilet. Is that correct?

Do it right and auger the drain line, don't use chemicals.

You have a 3" drain line that is clogged... chemicals will do nothing to help in cases like this.

Like Ma0641 said, you'll need to get the drain line unclogged using a sewer/drain machine.

Do you think I should call the guy to go through the pipe in the roof? Sorry if I'm not using plumber jargon...
We had this done once before in another bathroom when the sink drains were clogged. He ran something down through the roof outlet (whatever it's called). I guess I'll have to call a plumber.

Yup! Call a plumber and let him decide if he wants to snake the drain through the roof VENT or lift the toilet and snake the drain through the toilet drain pipe.

We cannot give estimates without being on the site. Your blockage is downstream from the bathtub. The solution would be to snake the line from the tub overflow. Would you like directions to do this or are you going to call in outside help? Let me know, Tom

The toilet drain line is what's clogged, Tom... as you know, better to snake down the roof vent or lift the toilet and snake the drain that way.

And That clog's downstream from the tub. While you could pull the toilet or go up on the roof I believe that the easiest way to snake the drain lines is tthrough the tub overflow. Good luck, Tom

In my experience it is never a good idea to snake a large drain line through a smaller drain line, especially one with a PTRAP, Tom. If the person snagged onto something, for giggles let's say a wad of paper towels, and it got snagged up on the snake you'd never be able to retrieve the snake... UGH!

I still strongly advise lifting the toilet or snaking down the roof vent for this job.
