If I have a judgement against me can the person take my property if I cant pay
My boy friend and I have a judgement against us for sixteen hundred dollars. We cannot pay this debt nor do we feel we owe this debt. We are currently living in our car and have no other source of income accept about one hundred fifty dollars a week that he earns at his job. My question is can the person who was ordered the judgement get another judgement and take our car? We have no other property or income. We are are homeless and don't know what to do. Any suggestions on what our rights are.

No, there are "exemption statutes" in all states (I assume you are in the U.S. ), exempting a certain dollar amount of property from execution. Furthermore, wage garnishment is limited so as to protect you wages under a certain amount per pay period.

    What state are you in?

They wouldn't get another Judgment. They would enforce the Judgment they have.

A lot depends on your State. Judgments can usually be collected for 10 years, renewed for another 10, so there is no need - or, usually, desire - to "take" your property.

You must be using a library computer - look up the law for your State.
