I saw a made-for-TV movie back in the late 70’s or early 80’s (I think).
The story is about an American kid who goes to Canada to escape the Vietnam War draft. He meets a Canadian girl and they become lovers. Then his father (I think) comes to tell him that he has been drafted and persuades him to come home and accept being drafted and going to war. For some reason the kid agrees. The kid goes through boot camp and then is ordered to go to Vietnam. He tries to reach the girl but is unsuccessful. While in Vietnam he is wounded and loses one or more of his limbs and is sent to live out his life in a veteran’s hospital; he feels he has nothing to live for. Meanwhile the Canadian girl is pregnant with their baby. After a couple of years the girl takes the baby to find the kid’s parents and let them know they have a grandson. She thinks the kid died in Vietnam because he never wrote to her. But his parents tell he that their son is alive and in the VA hospital. She takes the baby and goes to the hospital; joyous reunion; true love prevails. The end.
