    Cast iron replacement
I have cast iron piping that needs to be replaced from my main shower to the main line. It's about 10 of repair and he will need to jack hammer about 4 to 5 feet in my living room. He needs to reroute a brand new tub line to the main sewer line. He is charging about 2 grand. Am I getting ripped off or is this a good deal?

That's a lot of work... jackhammering that much of a slab and having to fix it afterwards is a big job. I'm surprised its not a lot more.

Are you sure this guy is Bonded and insured... as well as having a license to do this work? And isn't a fly by night guy working under the radar and off the books?

What prompted the plumbers call? There are some companies that reline piping. May be same cost but surely less invasive.

Two thousand bucks sounds a bit pricey. If it would save tearing up the slab I would definitely consider relining the pipe. Let us know what you decide. Good luck, Tom

Cfreemantrack said, "He needs to reroute a brand new tub line to the main sewer line", so I don't think relining the pipe will work here, guys!

Instead, I think our best advice would be to advise Cfreemantrack to get 3 quotes (and opinions) on the work... only way they will know the real story here!

Would this be to accommodate the new line he wants to run or does it have to be mover anyhow? Back to you, Tom
