Ask Me Help Desk - I hate my husband's dog

I met my husband with three dogs. He was a 30 year old bachelor with no "real" responsibilities other than taking care of himself and his dogs.

After I moved in I soon became aware of how unruly and untrained all three of his dogs were, especially his Puggle. These dogs would beg and be right behind you if you had food, and not just that bark if you didn't give them what you were eating. They also have aggression towards other dogs and if another dog walks by the house it's chaotic, frankly I'm surprised they haven't broken the bay window.

As time went by and the newness of me died he reintroduced his Puggle into what was now our bed. It was horrible. He would snuggle with it and I was literally shafted to the end of the bed with his back turned to me and he and the dog had the majority of the bed. I couldn't take it anymore, I'm a very affectionate and sensitive person and I felt so shafted. So the Puggle hasn't been sleeping in our room ever since, also because we keep the cat litter box in our room and she'll dig and eat from it and spread the kitty litter everywhere.

I just have grown to hate this revolting dog. The Puggle is the one to start everything--- when she runs away (she does often, one was a 3 day stretch) the other dogs are calm and submissive.

She also defecates in the house and there's been numerous times where I have stepped in it. It just irritates me.

I'm also 12 weeks pregnant, and I keep thinking about how horrible it's going to be when the baby is here.

I've talked to my husband about it and he's just defensive and there is no going anywhere.

I strongly believe this dog belongs on a farm, his mother thinks so!

FYI This Puggle was originally his mothers but she tried to sell it and then she's been passed around the family until my husband finally took her in.

I'm just lost. I feel so stressed and upset. This dog seems to be untrainable, and I have tried!

I can't tell him or force him to rehome her since I know in the future he would resent me for it. I just don't know what to do!

Help.

How about dog obedience lessons? And why is the cat litter box in your room?

Frankly with the baby coming, both of us working full time and being financially tight there would be no room in the budget for expensive dog obedience lessons (there are expensive in our area, I have looked). She also has been in obedience school, before I came into the picture, and has been quite relentless even then.

As for the litter box being in our room it's a better place for it, so none of the dogs get any ideas, also our room is a master bedroom and is large enough to house the littler box so it isn't an issue.

When I'm alone with the Puggle she is obedient! She is in tip top shape because she knows I don't take her little attitude. It's when my husband is around she's this annoying animal that I hate, he coddles her and isn't very consistent with the training (and yes, we've talked about it-- I can talk about it until I'm blue in the face).

She defecates the house when we're sleeping and when we're out. And yes all dogs go out on daily walks 1hour+ and they are taken out before bed and before work, we've even build them a dog run so they can remain outside for the summer.

I'm going to address the litter box issue. It is NOT better. That can be dangerous to your pregnancy. You should not be near litter boxes. I hope you aren't cleaning it out too.

The rest of it is just disgusting. What are you going to do when the baby starts crawling?

No I do not clean it.

I don't know what to do about the situation--- that's why I came here for advice!

Attend lessons at your local PetSmart or a place like that. Individual lessons weren't cheap, but small group were.

In the last thread I explained how my husband had three unruly dogs and how I'm pregnant and am at total loss to what to do about the situation.

Well the pitbull mix was rehomed because she was a risk to our unborn baby. She had a nipping problem and frankly I didn't want to deal with those consequences later on. My husband understood and moved on.

Now the Puggle-- honestly the worst offender. Well last week she escaped yet again from the yard. This time before we had put her there she ate some deer carcass she found--- great. Anyway, she ran away again and this time animal services got her and now to get her we'd have to pay a 400$ fine for her running at large, not being licensed/registered + accommodations.

So I put my foot down and said that that dog was not coming back home. I'm 1 1/2 months away from having our baby and these last couple days that she's been gone has been heaven--- and my husband admitted this to me, and his family, even his mother...

Anyway upon telling my husband that we're not forking out $400 for her and that we haven't even spent a dime on our baby yet (we've been really laid back about getting all the baby's things) that this wasn't even logical. His father even told him that this was a dead cost. His whole family agrees that this dog just has to go.

Like I was saying. Once I told him this he started to cry. As if I told him someone close to him died. He isn't mean or brash to me but he's crying, he won't look at me, he won't talk to me.

I don't know what to do. He's so depressed and now I'm starting to feel guilty.

Any advice would be great... or opinions.
