I live in san antonio,tx. I am soon to be 17 in October, just found out I'm pregnant. My parents are aware, but prefer me to get an abortion. Can they force me? I heard forced abortion is illegal. They also threaten to put my boyfriend in jail cause he's 18. But we met when he was 17. They knew we were together & knew I was sexually active. At the time I got pregnant I was living with my boyfriend too & they were also aware of it & were okay with it. But the main reason I am here is to ask, can my parents force abortion on me? & can my boyfriend get in trouble? HELP PLEASE & NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS. I MUST ADD I ALREADY HAVE A 2 YR OLD AS WELL.

No, they can not force you to have an abortion. The other legal issues will get complicated, since they can not just allow you to live with boyfriend, since you were a minor and other issues. They also can not give permission for you to have sex.

But no, just say no to abortion, they can not force it.

The age of consent in TX is 17. But they can make trouble in court in other ways, such as contributing to the delinquency of a minor. It might be a bargaining chip of your parents (they won't have him charged if you will abort), but that's just a guess. It's a fair warning though. I would have no contact with him for now.

So you got pregnant at 13 and kept the child... and learned NOTHING to prevent you from getting pregnant again before you were a self-supporting adult? I don't blame your parents in the least, frankly, because they are likely supporting all of you.

No one can "force" you to have an abortion. They can, however, withhold everything but a roof over your head, food to eat, and medical care. They can also throw you out of the house to fend for yourself once you turn 18. They can ALSO try to gain custody of your children based on your behavior.

I strongly suggest that you talk to a counselor to figure out what is best for you and the child you already have an obligation to.

Yes I was 13. I know how hard it is as well. My parents say abortion & my boyfriend doesn't agree. I feel like no matter what decision I make I'm hurting someone. & I don't think I'd br able to deal with that I ended an innocent life

& my parents aren't the type to put me on the street. BUT are the type to let me know what they think is best fr me..

I told you why. The fact that you can't 'see' it in what I wrote, and it was very clear and simple, has me worried that you are just very naïve about everything. I am also worried about you because your parents allowed you to live with a boy - we don't know what that was all about, but I just wonder what their parenting skills are, and how it all contributed to your confusion and naïveté.

EDIT: Wait! Your original question now says you are 16. Did I miss that, or did you change it from 17? Your boyfriend can more possibly be charged, since you clearly had sex at 16. He was 17. It does change things more dramatically. Under a newish law (2011) he won't have to register as a sex offender, but it doesn't mean he can't be charged with rape.

You do realize that adoption is an option open to you as well, right?

That's why I suggested a counselor--you need a neutral party to help you figure out what's best for YOU and your CHILD.

Screw everyone else. You're the one that has to live with the decision.

The age of consent in TX is 17. Your boyfriend can be prosecuted for sexual assault under TX law 22.011. However, he can mount a defense because he is less than 3 years older than you.

Your parents cannot consent to your having sex. So their being aware of it doesn't give your boyfriend any defense for his actions. In fact, allowing a 16 yr old to leave her parents and move in with him would not sit well with the courts.

So, yes, your parents can make a whole lot of trouble for him. On the other hand, if it can be shown that your parents allowed you to move in with him, they can also be in trouble.

But to answer the original question you can't be forced to have an abortion. However, I'm wondering how you are supporting your 2 yr old? And how you expect to support 2 children?
