I know that your post is somewhat dated. But, I thought that I would make an attempt anyway. Even if you do not read my answer, perhaps it will help someone else who might have a similar question in their mind.

I would avoid any home typing opportunities that you find on the Internet. Most of them are money makers to line the pockets of the people who run the sites.

If you don't already know how, I would make sure to learn how to use some basic typing programs that most people use on their computers. Like, Microsoft Word and Excel and Apple MacIntosh word processing applications if you are using a Mac.

Learn how to do spreadsheets. This would broaden out what you can do besides just typing documents with primarily words on them for people.

How about getting into the business of preparing resumes for people? Lots of books and online resources to learn how to do that.

Preparing advertising flyers for people is another route that I would take. Again, broadening out what you can do for people.

You will need to advertise your business. Hang your small "shingle" out wherever you see a public bulletin board where business advertising can be placed. Grocery stores, quick mart type places, bowling alleys, etc.

Always carry business cards with you and bring up your business in casual conversation.

Advertise in the business section of your local phone book.

In case you may want to get some free advertising for your business, please read the following:

Advertising on the Internet does not have to cost a cent. I have been doing it for over two years. I have hundreds of ads on the Internet. They are all free. I get the most results from my Internet advertising. More so than from my Yellow Page ads in the local phone book. Although, ads in the Yellow Pages are still necessary because of some people who do not have a computer, or if they do have a computer, are not on the Internet. The Yellow Pages are probably the first place that most people are going to look for services in their local area.

In a Google search, try typing in Quad Cities Piano Tuner, Piano Tuning Quad Cities, Piano Lessons Quad Cities, Handyman Quad Cities, Quad Cities Wedding Musician, Clough Quad Cities, and see what happens. Almost everything that you see on the first three or four pages will be my ads. And, these are not the only things that I advertise for in the Quad Cities. I live in Rock Island, IL which is part of Iowa - Illinois Quad Cities. If you look at any of my ads you will know how to word yours. Keywords are essential to bring people to your ads. The sites where you see my ads are the sites that work the best for free. Have tried many others, and some of them don't get good exposure at all in general searches on the Internet. But, your ads would only get results if you know on which site to search for your business or service.

This site gets excellent coverage in Google, but it is not to be used by the members for advertising. Because of words that I have already typed in this message to you, if people are looking for the things that I have described, such as "free advertising for your business", this message will start to show up in searches, not only on Google, but in other search engines.

This has all just been a way to demonstrate to you the power of advertising easily and for free on the Internet.

I hope that it has been helpful to you! If you need anymore information, please let me know. I would be glad to help!

I can suggest a couple different web sites for you to check out for possible typing opportunities. I am currently considering becoming a VA (virtual assistant) so I have been visiting these web sites quite a bit lately.

Guru.com – “marketplace for freelance talent” (their words). There is a small fee to join if you want to pursue any of their posted opportunities. IMO this seems like a great way to go. However there seems to be a trend of price cutting in the admin category (and most likely elsewhere) which I assume is being driven by service providers from outside the US.

Craigslist.com (jobs/admin/office) – I see a fair amount of freelance opportunities on our local site but this could vary depending on where you live. I would suggest doing a key-word search for the entire jobs category since posters may list typing jobs under a couple of different categories.

I hope this helps and best of luck.

I want to work from home e.g.. Typing of data entry work. They say that you needn't to pay a registration fee, but once you visit the website... you must pay a fee before you can get started. Why is that??

This thread is now very old and archived. It's no longer visible on the list of currently active threads. Also, this place doesn't work the same way that a chat room does. New questions need to be asked by starting new threads.

If you have a new question, please do start a new thread rather than asking the question on the thread of someone else.

    This thread is now CLOSED.

    Thanks!
