    Porch Railing
Hi. I have a 5x5 front porch that is made of block with a concrete slab for a top. However, I have no handrails and would like to biuld them onto the porch myself. I would like to know your opinion on how to attach the 4x4 Pt post to the porch. Also, there are two steps and the porch is surrounded by the driveways 4 in. slab. Any suggestions?

Check the home improvement centers for railings that can be attached by lag bolts and anchors to the slab. Most Wrought Iron Railings are attached that way.

If using pressure treated wood, cut bottom 1/2 the width post and extend down about 1 foot. Lag bolt to side of deck. The notch will give you down support where it sits on deck.

Thank you Handyman2007, and creahands. I will check the hardware store for this stuff. I guess I can finally use my new Hilti hammer drill.

A wooden post can be attached to the surface of a concrete deck and be stable but it takes a bit of work. You will need a table saw and a router or a dado blade for your table saw. Since you have a Hilti maybe you have those also. Post back if your are interested.

If you've got a Hilti Hammer Drill this will be a fairly easy job
