My girlfriend that I have been dating for 8 months hurts herself every time she gets mad/upset. Its happened a couple of times now and every time we start getting into an argument and I just not feeling like fighting back and I choose to ignore it she threats me with it. "im going to hurt myself if you don't answer me'' and it hurts me when she does that it makes me feel guilty and I truly don't know what to do about it. I'm scared now of getting mad at her or anything because I'm just afraid that someday she will hurt herself really bad. She has hit herself against metal poles really hard, punched herself in the head, scratched her cheeks.

Number one, she does this for the attention. Number 2, no, it is not normal. You don't mention her age so it's hard to give any advice except for , get away from her. If she hurts herself, it is NOT YOUR FAULT. It is her's for believing it will somehow make things better. It is nice of you to be concerned enough to ask for help. Have you asked her why she does this? Good Luck... If she has family or close friends, you may be able to talk to them about this.

She needs serious mental health help, you did not say your age, if she is under 18, tell her parents,

But you break up with her and don't contact her, this can go very bad fast.
