    Kidney Infection
Hi, I am seeking Medical Advise and I am hoping someone on here can help me. I have a really good friend who on Sunday night went to your Emergency room. It turned out that she had a really bad UTI infection that also caused a Kidney Infection. In the hospital they gave her morphine and some of her antibotics through her iv. They sent her home with more antibotic. My Concern is that she is not taking her antibotics. What will happen to her if she doesn't and how can I be support to her?

I don't know what you mean by "your" hospital - AMHD is not affiliated with a hospital.

If she doesn't take antibiotics as described she will permanently harm her kidneys, possibly losing the function of one or both. Then, if she qualifies for dialysis she will go on dialysis, probably 3 or 4 times a week.

Her life will be shortened and she will be leaving herself open to any number of infections.

Why don't you think she's taking her antibiotics?

How can you support her? In what way does she need support? Financial, emotional, something else?

Thank you for your answer. I didn't mean to write "your" Hospital that was a type problem. I was with her in the emergency room when they gave her a little IV of her antibotics and I have asked her many times a day how she is feeling and she always replies with she is doing fine. I know she isn't taking her antibiotics because she still has the paper that the doctor wrote perscribing them. Is it worse on her body and kidneys that she got the one dose and then hasn't took anymore? Is it really possible that she is feeling better? Can just a little dose in the hospital get rid of her infection? I just want to support her as a good friend and I want to know as much information as possible

Yes, it's worse on her body. Yes, it's possible that she is feeling better for now. No, a little dose didn't get rid of it. All those questions were clearly and emphatically covered by the first response!
In fact, if she delays filling the prescription by more than a day or two, she may end up in the hospital for a lot longer.
You can't make her take care of herself, but you can show her what people are saying online.
A UTI that goes all the way up into the kidneys is SERIOUS.
Tell her that if she was in pain Sunday, to wait until she has it again only worse.
Tell her that if she gets a yeast infection (cottage cheese-like substance from her vagina that sometimes itches) there are OTC products to cure that. Antibiotics can cause yeast. Eat lots of yogurt.
