I have a Hampton ceiling fan and light that goes to high speed and the light comes on without touching any control

Is this a brand new installation?

If this suddenly started to happen more than likely you need a new remote or receiver. Depending on the age of the fan, it might be a lot simpler to just replace the entire fan and light unit.
