Starts good in half choke let it run 10 second switch it to run it dies will work half choked only brand new today

I would say return it. Sounds like a clogged inlet screen - a problem almost exclusive to the WeedEater brand.

Bottom half of the shaft gets extremely hot

Hi,
Suggest taking shaft loose at engine, separate the two, remove inner flex shaft, lube with grease and re-install the opposite way(engine end toward head and vice versa.)
