There is nothing wrong with reading and writing wholesome novels if your purpose is for positive entertainment. "Aladdin" is one of the many stories that was written from around the time of the Caliphate.

If it would have been haram then all the scholars and poets from islam are made kuffar who wrote about romance, fiction, different religions etc. Gahlib, Mir, Allama Iqbal, Abul Fazal etc. many. You can write the novel.
