Late 70's early 80's movie title
The plot begins with a game of chicken set in the 60's (?) and the winner gets stuck in his car and dies. He ends up being sent back (as a ghost maybe) to help a young boy overcome some issues. He finds out the guy that he was racing against married the girl he loved but that the young boy was actually his son (why she rushed to marry the other guy). I believe he had to do this to be able to go to heaven but that part is a little fuzzy.
I watched this as a kid while stationed in Germany so I know it came out before 1989 but there were only VHS movies (no cable) so it could have been much older.
