Wiring ceiling fan to 3 way switch
I tried to put ceiling fan in from scratch to and existing switch. The switch is, I believe is a 3 way, it has a white, black and red wire along with a ground which was not hooked up. I ran 14-2 wire which has white, black and a ground. The ceiling fan has green, white, black, black w/ white strip (4) wires. I hook up the wires up white-white, green-green-copper, blk-blk-blk w white strip. It didn't work, Why?

What you are trying to set up is a switch loop.

In the ceiling you should have two cables, each with a black and white pair.

You connect the black from the fan to the white going to the wall switch and then wrap a piece of black tape around this white.

White from the fan goes to white in the supply cable. Black from the switch goes to Black/white fro the light.
