    Judgement against me
I had a car accident in 2000 which resulted in a judgement against me. Three years after the accident my drivers license was suspended and will be suspended until 2010. There is no reference to this judgement on my credit report. What is the statue of limitations for the State of Mississippi in regards to this matter? I am just trying to find some ammo to fight this issue. If I had $15,000 under my pillow, I would pay the judgement and be done with it. It is hard to find an attorney because the case is so old and there is not a lot of money to be made from this. I am at my wits end because I need my DL to go back and forward to work so that I can make money to resolve this issue. Thanks

The issue is that while it will not show up on your credit report, most likely if you do not pay it, even in 2010 you still will not be able to get your drivers license, I will bet that your license was suspended till then with the condition the amount due from the wreck be paid back.

This is common in all the states where I was a police officer, the driver who did not have insurance on their cars, could never get their drivers license back until they pay.

Also judgements stay valid for 10 years, and can be renewed for another 10 very easy by merely filing a motion for it. The only reason it is most likely not showing up on the credit report is that many private people do not take the time and trouble to report it on the credit report. ( it has to be reported, not automatically jumps on the report)

And on a judgement this is not that old of case, Next what are you trying to get a attorney for, there was a civil case, you lost, the judgement is in place and there is no money for them to make besides what you pay him for his hourly rate. There is nothing for him to "win" so you will merely have to pay an attorney his rate of pay, and they will be glad to help you.

You can apply for a hardship license, but they will want to see you making payments on this accident judgement. So if you have been paying only 30 dollars a month for the last 7 years you would have already paid off 2500 of the debt and the court would say, hey he is at least trying some. But if you have not paid one penny to the people you caused the damage to, the courts will say, look at the dead beat why should we help him at all.

That is basically where you are at in this.

A judgement usually lasts for 10 years and is renewable. SOL no longer applies since the judgement was obtained. SOL applies to how soon a suit has to be entered against you.

Have you made any attempts to enter into a payment plan with the judgement holder? I think you will need to do that first before the state will unsuspend your license.
