I need some help hooking up the faucet and shower head. Please keep in mind that I am a woman who has only fixed frozen broken pipes.
Here is the whole story:
Had a garden tub that had cracked so it was removed. Someone cut the incoming pipes off at floor level. The incoming water pipes and drain pipe are in front of the wall where the center point of the garden tub used to be. Although there is still a shower stall my totally disabled son needs a tub he can be laid down in. I purchased an older metal porcelain covered tub - not claw foot. The drain is at the right hand end. I want this installed where the garden tub used to be. How do I hook up the pvc pipe to the brass thing? Is it possible to run some kind of flexible pipe/hose (is there some kind that hooks up to pipe?) from the cut off pipe in the floor to the brass hook up? Or do the pipes need to be rerouted under the floor to come up at the open end? Does the drain pipe in the floor have to be moved or can I run some kind of flexible pipe/hose around the tub to the existing drain? On the open right end on the tub I am going to build a small wooden frame to attach the pipes to and then put a door/cover on it. The shower head simply needs a hook on the wall to hang from for it will only be used down in the tub itself. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I read your post and as much as I know we can help here I wondered if you had checked in with local city/town/county people and/or your son's health care providers? Sometimes, there are charities available to help with such stuff... have you checked into these? Some insurances will pay to have grab bars and anti-scald devices installed... may also be worthwhile to check on?

Hi Mark, Thank you for the reply.
I know his insurance will not cover any of it nor any bath related items. First thing Tuesday I will check into local charities to see if any are willing to help. If not, it will just be me doing this :) Actually I do not mind - I like being self sufficient. Am just hoping I did not bite off more than I can chew.
You sound very confident that all of you can help me. That makes me feel much better about this.

Post pictures, read up on Sharkbite fittings, CPVC and PVC piping. Describe tools you have available and skills.

Have read about Sharkbite fittings. Never heard of them before. Sounds like they would be easy to work with.
I have some standard household tools - could probably borrow anything else I need.
As for my skill - I have gotten under the house and fixed frozen broken pipes - beyond that - nothing :(

This is all I have so far and I hope it is the right stuff. I know I need the drain that goes inside the tub. Are the drains a standard size or do I need to measure this?

We need pictures of the area you are going to install the tub.

I want the tub placed where the drain goes at the carpet side. The carpet is going to be removed.
The one pic shows where the pipes are cut and capped off. The drain is down there also.

Which way are you going to install the tub and is that wall 60" or more.

Remove some wall paper up to about 24" on that wall so we can see what the wall is made of.

Is the drain where the small piece of plywood is?

With the drain and faucets at the end where that wall strip is.
There are 82" from the corner to the sink cabinet.
Is vinyl covered sheet rock.
The drain is there with the 2 incoming pipes - it just is down a bit lower.
Yes it is a mobile home.
Let me see if I can get those pieces of wood to come up.

This makes no sense at all. There were a dozen staples holding down the paneling piece yet there is absolutely nothing under it but bare solid floor.
The little square has nothing but insulation under it. There are 2x4's and no way to reach the pipes from there. There are no pipes running there.

Are you trying to RIG this up as a temporary solution or do you need this to be permanent installation?

If a permanent installation then the vinyl needs to come down off the wall or you'll need to frame out for the tub on top of the vinyl wall... building an alcove, if you will.

Framing work needs to be done, no matter what you are doing, to keep the tub stable when filled and to hold the tub/shower faucet, right?

The pipes will also need to be relocated to the right (near carpet) but for the exact location we need to know if the vinyl is coming down or if you are framing on top of the vinyl??

Hi Harold! Mjacobs confirmed the drain location at post #15 and said, "The drain is there with the 2 incoming pipes - it just is down a bit lower."...

She's going to have to relocate all the pipes to the right tub end, but still waiting on answers to my questions.

At first I was thinking to make this temporary. Perhaps with all the work involved I should make it permanent. If I was to make this temporary is there a quick way to just sort of "rig it up" ? What would be the easiest most quick way?
I had asked if there was some way to hook up something along the lines of washing machine hoses to the incoming pipes as a possible solution to not moving them. But if they need to be moved I will move them.
What I had pictured in my mind was the tub braced on the left side by the corner by the wall itself with maybe 1x2 or 2x2 wood frame nailed to the wall itself for it to "sit" on. The right end being open and showing I thought build a box of some kind right there to hold the plumbing and then close it off with a panel of some sort. Having no knowledge of how all this works I do not know if something like that is doable. Placement of the shower head does not have to be the typical install. It will never be used at a height of any kind and will never be used as a stand up shower. It will have a long hose that will need to reach down into the tub to bathe my son. Actually I need the shower head to be as close as possible to the faucets or about that level someplace so I can easily reach over and grab it.
