Well, if the a/c was running when the weed eater uncovered the wires, you most likely blew a low voltage fuse on the indoor control board, or fried a transformer on the inside unit. This would cause the complete system to shut down.

I would suggest an hvac tech over an electrician. Nothing against electricians, just that an hvac tech will be more familiar with the workings of the unit. Trust me, a qualified hvac tech will get this up and running quicker than a qualifeid electrician. Two completely differents areas of expertise, believe it or not.
UR correct-- I called an electrician and he said to call HVAC. It was a blown fuse, and he replace the chewed up wires I had taped up. Thanks again
