3yr old dog won't sleep around new puppy
Our 3yr old puppy is very nervous at night when our new puppy is in the room. We've had the new puppy for almost two weeks now and during the day they play and sleep together but at night the 3yr old gets unnerved and won't settle. They dogs go willingly into separate crates but then she hears a noise from him and gets unnerved. At first she will make smacking noises with her mouth then whine and eventually works herself into a frenzied bark. The only way to get some sleep is to take her to another room. What can we do to assure her that he is not a threat to her?

Could be your three year old has bonded with new puppy and feels protective. She can't confort the new puppy when she knows that they are separated in crates. Can you let them sleep together? If these are the crates I am thinking of, they can be joined together into one large crate. I hope this helps!

If moving her to another room solves the problem, why not just start her there? I would never put an adult and puppy in the same crate. Part of the purpose of a crate is to restrict activity. Put 2 dogs in the same crate, and one could have to foul it. Neither could withdraw when play became too intense.
