    Why doesn't my boyfriend's parents/family like me?
Me and my boyfriend have been dating for almost a year now. His cousin who use to be my best friend always talks badly about me and has turned almost everyone against me thinking I'm a bad person, but I'm not.

I've talked to his sister about it and everything seems okay, but I still have a feeling that there's something in their minds that are keeping them from liking me. It hurts to know that the guy I'm in love with his parents don't approve of me.

Keep in mind I'm an African American and he's Salvadoran and Filipino.

Perhaps there is a racial problem, but not anything against you specifically?

Unfortunately, there is a racial divide between black and Filippinos, especially if the girl is black. Filippino parents say, "My son can do better," not taking into account the value of the person inside that skin.. That is slowly changing as the races intermarry and blend, but it might take a few more generations to settle out. My parents had refused to allow me to date anyone other than a Lutheran, but by the time my sister was dating (8 years later), my parents had decided to loosen their rules.

Is there some way to allow his parents to get to know you in a positive way?
