    What can I do to stop a garnishment
    My husband and I liave on a fix income. We both a ss and a state retairment. The past month we have had to sell things on crageslist to make ends meet. What can we do to stop the from garnishment?

    Make an appiontment with the IRS and show them your actual expenditures versus your income and come to an agreement on a monthly payment.

    You cannot stop garnishment if you owe the IRS. There is another route you can go (name escapes me at the moment) where you can petition to have what you owe lowered. But that is a very difficult process.

    Who is threatening garnishment? The only way to stop it is to reach a settlement with the creditor.
