    Long distance break
Dating a girl four months and she wants time and space to think about things. We see each other every two weeks over a weekend. We love each other but the distance seems to be causing a problem. Right before the break I met her parents. That's an odd thing in my book to meet the parents and then go on a break. The parents liked me so that wasn't the issue. She says one of the things that bothers her is that I can be smothering. Like I want to talk too much, expect her to text back right away, call me after she's been out, etc.

I used to be very much like this. As joypulv noted it's normally something you learn from an early age for one reason or another. I would find it easy to help my partner open up but as soon as I was feeling there was an issue be it directly related to him or just a bad day at work or something I would bottle up. It takes a lot of effort and as noted above, trust. Start small I always found it useful to speak over the phone if that was easier than in person or while being together curled up as he was facing away sometimes. I know how strange it sounds but it was a bit more like I was talking to myself and he was very patient so it got easier. Just find your way to ease yourself into it. It's worth it.
