IRS did not receive my tax return, what should I do
    Hi,

I mailed the tax return about March 20. I checked Where Is My Refund, it shows they did not receive my tax return. I also check with the automatic hotline.

In this case, what should I do? Can I file return next next year? I only have one copy of W-2 from the company.

Why didn't you keep copies of what you mailed them this year? Seriously... copies are cheaper to make than the postage was.

And no you can't wait until next year...

In fact you are legally REQUIRED to keep copies for at least 3 years... in case you get audited it's the only proof YOU have that you even filed. And for instance... they have twice came to me claiming I never filed a certain previous years returns... I made copies of the copies and tell them, excuse me... but yes I did and here are copies of my copies... and it ended at that.

Guess what would have happened if I couldn't have.

Hi, I can get my addition W-2 copy from my company. I have the Tax return form copy (unsigned copy). What should I do in this case?

Ask you employer... there will be a process to get one... but it's the other stuff that's going to be difficult to get... especially if you DID itemize... because you need all that stuff... including financial documents from your bank etc...

I am a F-1 student, My whole document includes 1040NR-EZ, two W-2 (from company and school), and 8843. It is after deadline. Can I still file it? Thank you!

Yes, you can still file. Make a photocopy of the W-2s and re-submit the tax return using the photocopies. As long as the photocopies are clear and accurate, the IRS will NOT care.

Do you mean I make photocopies of both W-2 and signed tax return form? And I mail the photocopy of all the forms? Thank you.

Photocopy of W-2 only. Print out a fresh copy of the tax return and put a fresh signature with new date of signature.

Many thanks! I have W-2 for local filing and employee reference copies, but does not have the copy of W-2 for federal tax return (because I sent it in March).

May I ask if it is allow to send W-2 for local filing or employee reference copies to IRS for tax return. Of course, if it is not allowed, I will have to ask company to re-send me another copy.

You can send ANY of the sw-2s; they all have the same information.

Thank you very much, I see some "City or Local Filing Copy" at the bottom of the form, so I thought it was limited for city or local filing only. Thanks!

Do not feel bad about that. Most Americans think the same thing.
