The fact that you have been on time all along has only a little bearing. As the disclaimers say, past history is not indicative of future performance.
Also you don't say whether you are dealing with the landlord directly or a management company. The landlord may be acting without compassion, but not as a jerk. And, again, some areas do allow for a grace period.
I have some ideas on how to proceed, but I need to know a) your general locale, b) whether you are dealing direct with the landlord and c) what you want to do.
