If the pain is lasting for a long time could be muscle strain or nerve pain which could be in your neck. It could be several things if heat and ice don't work 10 minutes cold half hour off and or hot water bottle on the shoulder see a doctor there could be more damage being done as you work out. I once was a body builder and also through an injury now have a torn rotator. See a doctor if its constantly painful and ease up on the workouts. There are too many variables when pain is involved it could be something minor like not warming up correctly or something extremely serious like an infection in your lungs which can show in your shoulder region so see a doctor. You haven't said if it's a sharp pain a radiating pain a movement pain a dull ache pain or sporadic pain. Pain happens when you work out but there are differences that's why I would suggest a doctor.

Cold for swelling, moist heat for just pain (heating pad with damp washcloth). Gentle rotating movements when warm. Stop workouts for a while.
