Am I a candidate for a hysterectomy?
I have ALWAYS had rough periods, moderate to heavy flow & clumps & debilitating cramps to where I've had to go home from school/work in the past. I do not want kids & I also do not want to live with this the rest of my life. I have been on various kinds of birth control since about fifteen or sixteen & most recently I had decided to try the Mirena IUD. Unfortunately last Tuesday I believe it came out. After not getting to sleep until five am I awoke at about seven with such severe bloating, cramping & bleeding & clotting that I had my grandmother drive me to the emergency room. I know I wasn't pregnant but for a minute I nearly thought I was having a miscarriage. After four hours in the emergency room, two ultrasounds: one regular & one vaginal & a pelvic exam & a pregnancy test which was negative & an IV bag of fluids I was told it was simply a very very heavy period. BULL! I know about heavy periods & this was so bad I was genuinely frightened. If my grandmother hadn't driven me there & I'd tried to drive myself I'd have probably driven into a telephone pole. I've felt like ever since & I had an appointment for this Friday to be sure if my Mirena had moved downward. I'm keeping that but I don't intend to get another. So, considering all that would I qualify for a total hysterectomy? I know a partial or getting your tubes tied doesn't end your periods. I want to end them. I could live with hormone pills or whatever treatment is needed to cope with no ovaries & such. So please let me know what you think & any input is greatly appreciated.
