Thanks but Flight of the Intruder was about planes that got shot at not a ship. The movie I can't remember the name of was not a carrier more like a destroyer or even something a little smaller and it was about the ship being shot at or boarded and the movie was made in the late 60's or early 70's.

The USS Pueblo was captured in Korean waters.

The Gulf of Tonkin incidents involved the USS Turner Joy and the USS Maddox. The ships were supposedly attacked by North Vietnamese gunboats and were the "causus belli" of the United States' massive buildup in Vietnam.

Historians have since questioned exactly what happened that fateful day, and some have suggested it was not as the government described it. In any case, it led to 10 years of war and over 50,000 American dead.

In a 2003 documentary, "The Fog of War", then-defense secretary McNamara admitted that one of the claimed attacks never happened. The lies were basically to ensure that Johnson would win the presidential election. It worked.
