Can a Lease Renewal increase the rent per month legally?
I have leased an apartment for 1 year as of Jan. 2012. I continued renting, without any notification from the landlord, for the months of Jan. - April 2013. As of 4/29/2013, I received a Lease renewal, to sign. It states it is, " a rider to and forms a part of the original lease." It is extending the original for an additional 12 months. BUT, the Rental Rate has increased, as well as an "additional deposit". Does Florida law allow; 1.) the period of 4 months to elapse prior to notification & 2.) increase in rent and additional deposit?
