    Month to month notice to vacate
    Im on a month to month lease in santa rosa California. I have lived in my house for almost three years and have only discussed/renewed my rental agreement one or two times. Now all the sudden the left a notice on my door to vacate the property in 60days and won't even give me a reason why. I always pay rent in full and on time, and am a little to no problem resident. Is this all legal?

    Yes, it's legal. If you are a month-to-month tenant the landlord can terminate the tenancy with 60 days written notice. They are not required to give you a reason for the termination.

    What is the most effective and respectful way to request the management company/home owner to reconsider their decision. I have a three year old daughter and no other options. PS. Im from asbury park, NJ

    Please don't start a new thread for the same issue. I've merged your threads so that everyone can keep track.

    The best method would be to contact the management company by mail or email, with a copy to the landlord, asking for an extension of the tenancy. Rather than asking why they are terminating, you'd probably be better off just saying how much you like the place and want to stay.

    BTW, in your first post you said you were in California. Now you're in NJ?

    I was born and raised in NJ. Moved to California so my daughter could grow up around her family.

    You specifically referred to "my house". This implies this is a single family detached residence rather than an apartment building. There could be many reasons the landlord has decided to terminate your tenancy that have nothing to do with how good a tenant you are. They may be deciding to sell, they may need to move back in, they may have a family member that needs the house etc. There is no legal requirement to give you a reason. If they have a reason (especially one of those I suggested, then they want you out.

    The law simply states that tenancies over 2 years require a 60 day written notice for termination. So they have complied with the law and its entirely legal. I would suggest that you start looking for new lodgings ASAP. You can try to see if they will reconsider, but the likelihood is they won't.
