    Pilot is lit
A new electric meter was installed at my home, so power was lost for appox 30 sec... I don't know if that affected my situation,. my 30 yrs plus furnace pilot is lit, but when the temp is adjusted on the thermostat the burners don't ingnite. The fan does come on when I manually turn on the switch. But burners still don't ingnite

How do you know that the pilot is lit? Did you look in a little glass window and see a flame? If that is how you had done it then it may be that the tube that carries the flame has grown short through the years. Also did you check all the breakers for your furnace?

I do see & hear the pilot flame, and I had already checked the breakers... the flame is exposed in the open and right next to the burners. So I don't think that the tube is an issue.
