My daughter and son in law have an account with Aaron's. The company constantly clls my cell leaving messages for them, and when I answer they ask me to contact my daughter and give them message to call them. I do this, and I have asked that Aaron's only call me once a week due to it is my cell phone they are calling. Yet they still call like 2 and 3 times daily.
This morning I answered, and the manager actually asked to advisd my daughter to contact them by 5pm today, or they would be seeking "Legal Action"... Is this not breaking the Privacty Act Law..? This is telling me that my daughter is past due and it apparently is far enough that aarons feels they need to seek legal action to reposse the mercandise... or seek judgement.
Please let me know if this is not true, I will be speaking with an attorney if the answer is what I believe it is.

Are you a cosigner? If you are they can sue you for it. If they have your cell phone number you obviously gave it to them... they have the right to contact everyone to get paid... including you, their neighbors etc.

Think its bad now.. wait until it goes to collection... when they win a judgement... and get a writ of garnishment they can go after what is owed directly from their bank accounts.

Want this to stop... I suggest having a long and serious talk with your daughter about paying her bills on time.

Being past due.. isn't ever acceptable. Being past due consistently is completely unacceptible.

Instead of blaming AArons.. how about putting the blame where it belongs.. your daughter that feels her obligations are less important than her immediate wants.

She should first pay ALL her bills... before she spends a dime on herself. At this rate she will never get a bank loan, mortgage, credit card and even her car insurance will be a higher rate because of her poor credit habits.

Yes... poor credit causes many things to be more expensive beyond what you might think for people with the bad credit. It can even keep her from getting a good job... or cost her one she might already have.

Why are they not dealing with your daughter? Get your number changed.

Well then, the mom has to find a spine (a good expression I learned here) and tell her daughter to get a life and stop leaching.

As asked, what privacy act do you refer to? There is no one such act.

Why haven't you just blocked their number? You can, under the FCRA, tell them to stop calling and only correspond by mail.

If you are asking about unfair collection practices and you are in no way responsible for paying the account tell Aaron's (whatever that is) to stop calling you or you will notify the State Attorney General of their illegal practices. Until/unless you notify them to stop they can and will keep calling you.

And, yes, tell your daughter to pay her bills and keep you out of it.
