So my lmp was 15-2-2013.. Which is also regularly for me. I took a pregnancy test on 1-4-2013 which told me I was 2/3 weeks pregnant. I went to the hospital 20-7-2013 and from my scan it told me I was 7 weeks pregnant. Does this mean that I conceived Exactly two weeks after my period? Or does this mean that I conceived later on? I am so confused as I want to know if I ovulated when I was supposed to... HELPPPP!

No one can helpppp you at this point because ovulation/conception/pregnancy are not an exact science.

If you need to know the date of conception due to a question about paternity you will have to wait until the child is born and then request DNA testing.

No I know who the father of my baby is. I just wanted to know if the scan is at proper dating. I want to tell my parents but want to wait until it's safe enough for the baby, and I want to know how accurate these scans actually are.

No it doesn't mean you conceived on any exact day... there is a four week window on that estimate... which is two weeks before to two weeks after that date.

If you was sleeping aroundwith more than one man that entire month... you will HAVE to have a DNA test done to find out who the father is.

I know who the father is he has been my partner for over two years. I just want to find out Weither or not my
Scan dating is correct or if my nurse is incorrect.

If you are using a cell phone app, delete it as they are completely worthless.

Unless you'v ebeen keeping a daily Basal Temp chart... for months... you can't know when you ovulate...

Deciding how far along is an educated guess by a development chart... even the best doctor can't guess with any more certainty than plus or minus two weeks from a given date.

Why are exact dates so important?

The dates are so important because I want to know excatly how far along I am. I don't want the doctors telling me
One thing then a few weeks later telling me different. I haven't told family memebers so therefore want to wait to the correct week to tell.

You'll never know EXACTLY... you can only go by what the professionals are telling you.

What part of what we told you did you not understand... NO Doctor on this earth can predict it in less than a 4 week window. Can't happen, not going to happen... its impossible.

Medical science has not yet advanced to a point they can get it any closer. It might never... and certainly won't before this child is born. Their guesses are a rough prediction... nothing more.

If an EXACT date is so important for some reason... then you aren't being any more honest with us than you are with yourself.

Because there is absolutely no possible way anyone walking this earth can predict it.

I understood it. I am being HONEST with myself. Like some people I am curious! It was a questioned I simply asked. This Is my first pregnancy and was wondering if it is able to find out dates no big crime in asking a simple questions!

I understand what you're asking. Most people want to wait until they're at least 12 weeks pregnant to tell family and friends, because most miscarriages happen before the 12 week mark.

I'm guessing you used a pregnancy test that claims to tell you how far along you are? There's no way for a urine test to determine that, it's all hype, so ignore that pregnancy test and trust the scan.

Is the scan 100% accurate? No. They base it on the growth of the fetus. It's a best guess, but far more accurate than the pregnancy test that guesses, based on your urine, how far along you are.

Based on a pregnancy calculator I trust, online, if the first day of your lmp was 15-02-2013, as stated in your original post, you are 9 weeks pregnant and your due date is on or around (remember there's a 2 week window either way) November 22, 2013.

Edit: Want to add that this is based on your lmp, and that's the date they start counting from, even though at that time, you're not pregnant, you haven't even ovulated. Pregnancy is funny that way. We count 40 weeks from your lmp, but most women don't ovulate until around 2 weeks after the start of their period. So the 9 weeks is gestational age. Minus the 2 weeks from the start of you lmp, and you're actually 7 weeks pregnant. But that's not how they calculate gestational age.

Thanks very much alty finally someone who understands the reason to why I want to know dates! Yes I was wondering in case of miscarriage. I just wondered if my scan says 7 weeks on the 20th April, will that mean I am 9 weeks as they add on another 2 weeks from my LMP. Thank you for the congrats by the way!:) x

You're welcome. I do have to add, the other people that posted are friends, I've known them for a long time, but they're men. They don't understand that for a woman, miscarriage is always a fear, and that 12 week mark is usually a sigh of relief, because before that 12 weeks is when most miscarriages do happen.

I do have to say, I've had three pregnancies, I have 2 children. Ya, the math doesn't add up does it? I had a miscarriage the day I hit the 12 week mark with my third pregnancy. :(

I told family and friends, because I had no issues with my other two pregnancies, so I thought the third would be fine. It wasn't. I don't regret telling my family and friends, even though I lost the baby. Their support during that difficult time, was needed, and appreciated.

In other words, telling family and friends before the 12 week mark, won't change anything. If miscarriage is going to happen, it happens. If they already know you're pregnant they can offer support. If you did miscarry (no reason to think you will) it would be a shock to them if they didn't know you were pregnant.

You don't have to wait until you're 12 weeks. Tell your family and friends, rejoice. If something happens, and don't assume it will, they will know and they will be there to support you.

Darn, that was meant to be encouraging, and it came off as morbid. I didn't mean it to sound that way at all. Don't go through this pregnancy worried. Enjoy it! Pregnancy is a truly remarkable thing. I enjoyed every one of my pregnancies, and I have two beautiful children to show for it. :)

I just thought there posts were a bit forward and rude as I wasent making my point clear enough for them. I have experienced some bleeding recently during what I was told week 5 this occurred for 1 week but was light not like a normal m/p. however the scan last week was when I was told I was 7 weeks. Will this mean 7 weeks from conception? I want to tell family & friends but also do not want them getting excited and then being told that I have miscarried. I am very happy you have been able to provide your support! Sorry to hear about your m/c but also congrats on both your children!:)

It means that your fetus is 7 weeks in actual age, but on the pregnancy calendar, gestationally (made that word up ;)) speaking, you're 9 weeks. Most women ovulate around 2 weeks after the first day of their menstrual cycle. That 2 weeks is added to the pregnancy, and a pregnancy lasts 40 weeks from your lmp, even though you're not actually pregnant at the start of your lmp. Is this making any sense? I feel like I'm blubbering nonsense.

When they do a scan they go by the growth of the fetus, and your fetus is 7 weeks according to the scan. According to your lmp, you're 9 weeks.

Trust me, when it comes to family, they'd rather know, and then be there to support you, than not know and have you go through a miscarriage alone. Not that you'll miscarry. There's no reason to think you will, but it does happen, and having support if it does, is very important. I learned that the hard way.

As for the other posters. Sadly, most of the questions we get about ovulation, are due to a poster attempting to find out who the potential father is. Truth told, in the many years I've been on this site, you are the first poster I remember that asked about ovulation, not because they wanted to determine paternity, but only because they wanted to know when it was safe to tell their family and friends. Those two posters are good friends of mine, and great people. Don't judge them too harshly because they didn't understand what you were asking. Most men don't (no offense men) :)

Make sure you're taking your prenatal vitamins, eat healthy, if you smoke you should quit, and of course no alcohol. Take care of you, and baby will be taken care of.

You sound very excited about this baby, and I'm so happy to be able to post to someone that's actually happy about the pregnancy, and in a stable relationship. You're a breath of fresh air.

Edit: Just want to address the part where you said they were too forward. Sadly, that's the way it has to be on a site like this. We have to ask questions in order to answer, and sometimes the questions we have to ask, are a bit forward. The written word really is the hardest way to communicate, and most of the people that post here, don't post enough info for us to give an accurate answers, which means we have to ask questions, and some of them are personal. Please don't be offended by that. In fact, look around the site, see if there are any questions you can answer. If you stick around, you'll soon realize that most questions aren't a straight forward "this is the issue, this is what you need to do" type of question. Most questions require more questions in order to give an answer.

Also of course, if they say 7 weeks, that is also a estimate, it is based on average size of fetus at a certain time, it is not exact, it can be give or take a week or so. Now all women ovulate two weeks after period, it can vary greatly, so unless you were taking tests to know ovulation dates, it is always a guess.

To clarify WHY I mentioned th DNA test early on... 99% of the women posting on this site needing to know SPECIFICALLY when they conceived... is because they admitted to sleeping with more than one person (though most are not forthcoming with that info at first)... I'm actually glad to see someone that had another reason.

Too all who have answered my question thank you very much. Alty all off your information has made sense and put my mind at ease. Yes I so understand the case of people thinking of ' sleeping around' but my question was just asked out of curiosity as I am new to all this and am not that good with dates etc lol.
