    Theft over $5000
On a late summer evening in 2000, I was running a BK drive through when I was robbed. I happened to know who these people were but failed to tell the cops who they were at first. They took me downtown for questioning... then several hours later was being charged. Apparently the robbers (who did know me) told police t was my idea. I was charged with Theft UNDER 5k and Public Mischeif. I can understand the mischeif part but not the theft. So I went to court several times throughout that year. They kept remanding the case. After 3 or 4 appearances I stopped showing. I waited until 2005 and never heard anything so decided to leave to another province for work experience. Now... in 2007 I was pulled over a few nights (first time ever) ago and was told I have a warrant for Theft OVER 5k. First of all I was charged with theft under now the warrant says theft over. I have been charged with Mischief before in 99 for a prank phone call.

Now what do I do? What is bound to happen to me? And yes... I'm absolutely terrified. (I live in Alberta, Canada now... originally from Manitoba, Canada)

Your problem was the you failed to appear. You don't know what happened. The charge may have changed and you were not aware of it. A bench warrant is serious. Seek a criminal defense attorney.

    I agree with AtYourService.

You failed to show up for court, that is a very very very bad thing to do.

    Get a lawyer, NOW.

OK, if you had keep going to court, most likely the case would have been dismissed.

What the trouble is, since you knew who it was and did not tell the police at once, they assume you were part of the robberly, and at least help cover it up for a while. This is why you were charged,

Now they have you for failure to appear and there will be a warrant for you.

And since you did not appear, it will likely hurt the original charge also.

You need an attorney big time, and now.
