Howdy all, I'm on a roll today with the questions...

The baseboard of my bathroom started deteriorating under my wall mounted toilet (hangs off the wall- nothing touching the ground). I assume the wax ring is ka-put. I need to replace it.

I have a special wax ring made for wall hung toilets. Do I just unbolt those four bolts, use a floor jack or something to pull it out, then replace the ring and then bolt it all against the wall?

What are the best practices for this? You can't use your body weight to smash the wax ring in place- I'm looking for caveats and gotchas to this procedure.

I have 4 of these in my house, so I better get used to them, and figure out how to do it the right way.

Any general info on this would be great- google/askmyhelpdesk searches didn't come up with much general info.

It really depends on what kind of wall hung toilet you have and what kind of in-wall carrier system you have.

Hmm... this is where I don't have an amazing amount of knowledge. At work I can tell you it has 4 big chrome bolts that go into the porcelain, and then into the wall I assume. More specifics to come.

The one thing I know about a true wall hung toilet that does not touch the floor is this, if you tighten the nuts using the wrong pattern the toilet will break. Most of the wall hung toilets I worked on I used the instructions to verify first and I found that the top right nut can not be installed until the other 3 are completed. Then the top right nut is put on hand tight and then turned 1/4 turn and STOP.

The wall hung toilet is not that heavy, shut the water down to them , you can remove any water in them with a wet vac. Put down a thick pad or towel under it. Remove the nuts and washers and pull the toilet off the studs, and set the toilet on the pad it will lean one of two ways. Remove your old wax ring and install your new on. Reset the toilet put washers and nuts back on and tighten them in a cross pattern. Tighten the nuts snug enough so the toilet does not rock up or down. Reconnect the water turn it on flush it look for any leaks.
