    Funky mildew smell in water
Over the past several months, I have noticed a strong smell coming from all the taps in my house when the water is initially turned on-hot or cold. The first time I noticed was after rinsing my hands off-I could smell mildew on my hands! This house was built in the mid 1980s and we have been here over 3 years. Bathtub taps do not seem to have the same problem. Can this be fixed and is it harmful?

First off try this. Remove the aerators and clean the screens and soak them in bleach. Run the water without the aerators on. Does the water still smell? Pump or city water?
    Back to you, Tom

I'll try that. We are on a co-op type water supply outside city limits but it is definitely not well water. Thanks!

Is there an old unattended water filter in the system?

Have no idea about the filter. We're planning "surgery" for the faucets this weekend!
