Well you could analyse your cash book but a budget is an estimate of income and expenditures. You base this on past experience but you also base it on expectations otherwise known as projections. To make those projections you will want to analyse your sales journal, your purchase journal and your cash receipts and cash payments journals however it is easier to get the data you need from the financial reports.
