I will begin by saying I can't buy a new a.c. unit so I need to figure out a way to use the one I have. The material that covers the coils of the outside unit fell off. The coils are now rusting. I would appreciate any help. Please!

A picture would help. The fins may have come off. This is a fairly common issue in coastal areas near the beach where salt corrodes the fins. Where are you located?

I live in Central Florida. I'm not sure how to add a picture but I did find pictures of missing fins and it's exactly what is happening to my air conditioner.

The coils can't rust. They are made of either copper or aluminum. You can attach pictures by clicking on the "Manage Attachments" bar below the "Submit Answer" button. To see this feature you must reply using the orange reply button not the "Quick Answer" box.
