My heat pump ran for about 5 minutes, then shut off.
My heat pump ran then shut off as did the air handler inside. It won't come back on to air condition my condo. What's most likely wrong with it? All of the electrical connections have been checked and are all connected properly. I have a brand new thermostat and it is working as well. What are the different things that could be wrong? One of my HVAC friends says that the freon could be low; thus, making the heat pump turn itself off so as not to burn up the compressor. I'm freaking because I'm very low on money right now and nervous about how much this could end up costing me! HELP!

It is almost impossible to totally diagnose over the internet. Could be as simple as a loose wire, tripped breaker or bad compressor, capacitor, contactor etc. I would first check the breaker and look for obvious wires loose on the thermostat. Since everything died, it could be your control board. "Freakin" won't help, you will need AC or get hot!

Hahahhahaha... I appreciate your response, thank you. I believe you may be on the right track with the mother board, it was flashing red AND green prior to death. LOL
