How do I ask to get my tongue pierced?
I'm 13 turning 14 and I want my tongue pierced for my birthday. My closest friend has hers done and I'm not scared of pain or anything. I just don't know how I should bring it up to my mom.. Any ideas?

    You're too young.

You're not old enough. If she says "no", be glad that your mom is not asleep at the wheel.

Ask them if they have good dental insurance. Tongue piercings are well known to ruin teeth.

Food will get caught in the piercing, you will get infections more easily, your speech will be affected in a bad way, employers do not like to hire people with tongue piercings (because of the speech impediment mostly), and you will get chipped and broken teeth and fillings. My nephew had to have part of his tongue removed because of an infection he got. Your mom is smart if she says no.

Tell them at least you are not arrested for drugs or pregnant, and I am sure they will be happy,

You are too young and these have no benefit at all,

I can think of only one reason for a tongue piercing. At 14 you are too young to be thinking that way. Do you realize how it will affect your social reputation?

Yes - are you aware that there are sexual connotations of having a tongue piercing? I won't get graphic about it, but I don't think you are the least bit prepared for the signal having one sends to men.

The sexual connotation is not female to male, but rather female to female, but either way, it is a good point, and terribly young to be sending this message/impression to anyone.

All good points, but the dental aspect is actually a disfiguring one. Until you get used to sending your tongue in the right direction with the additional weight on it, just keep in mind that you are going to have some chipped front teeth. That goes along with the whole picture though, gaping teeth I mean.

    I believe it is both.
